Building Relationships with Artists and Collectors
In 2015, a group of artists from North Iowa hosted a holiday open house. This event sparked a movement to create an artist community that could meet throughout the year, without relying on event based shows to bring artists together. The initial goals were simple; to create an environment where artists could share and support each other in their artistic endeavors, while also creating a space where they could share their creative ideas and their artwork year round. And with that..........Art on the Plaza was born.
Art on the Plaza is an artist owned and operated gallery showcasing the work of artists from the North Iowa area. Jewelry, pottery, paintings, photography, glass art, metal art and fiber art are some of the artist's media. There is a wide variety of unique art for collectors, for wedding gifts, corporate gifts, and personal gifts. The gallery is a juried gallery to keep the quality very high. New artists can become members by completing an application and the jury process.
The plaza artists interact with the public not only by working at the gallery but also by showing their art at the Clear Lake Farmers market, where Art on the Plaza hosts a booth. Many of the artists are also part of the North Iowa Studio Tour and are involved with The MacNider Art Museum and the Clear Lake Arts Center.
Every time you visit Art on the Plaza, you will be greeted by a working artist. This artist can share with you their personal artistic style and techniques, and will also be able to convey information on the other artists whose work you will be seeing. There is much to see, and the gallery changes regularly. Come to view, come to shop or simply to have the opportunity to chat with the artists and learn all about the art scene in Mason City, Iowa.
Stop by and say hello- we look forward to meeting you.
