Building Relationships with Artists and Collectors
In 2015, a group of artists from North Iowa hosted a holiday open house. This event sparked a movement to create an artist community that could meet throughout the year, without relying on event based shows to bring us together. The initial goals were simple; to create an environment where we could share and support each other in our artistic endeavors, while also creating a space where we could share our artwork with the public year round. And with that, Art on the Plaza was born.
Art on the Plaza is an artist owned and operated gallery that showcases the work of over 20 artists from the local area. We have a wide variety of unique items suitable for wedding gifts, corporate gifts, and personal gifts, as well as items for the self purchaser. We are truly a community; we collaborate, encourage, and motivate each other to push boundaries and to create. We are also a business; members are all artists who have artwork in the gallery, who pay yearly memberships as well as monthly dues, and who either work in the gallery or pay a commission on their sales. New artists become members by completing an application and jury process. Artists have the opportunity to interact with the public not only at the gallery, but also at the Clear Lake Farmers market, where Art on the Plaza hosts a booth with an ever-changing group of artists displaying together. We are also ardent supporters of the North Iowa Studio Tour, with many of our members participating in and coordinating that event.
Every time you visit Art on the Plaza, you will be greeted by a working artist. This artist will share with you their personal artistic style and techniques, and will also be able to convey information on the other artists whose work you will be seeing. You will see photography, paintings, pottery, baskets, glass work, sculptures, fiber art, and jewelry. There is much to see, and the display changes regularly. Your purchase will be carefully wrapped while you have the opportunity to chat with the artist and learn all about the art scene in Mason City, Iowa.
Stop by and say hello- we look forward to meeting you.
